What Should I Wear for Tinkergarten?
Prepare to get messy! I suggest having a set of clothes that can get dirty set aside especially for Tinkergarten. Check the weather before class and dress appropriately. For footwear, I suggest boots or shoes that can get muddy, wet and dirty.
Will Class be Cancelled Due to Weather?
Blossom n Thrive follows the guidelines of a Child Care Weather Watch chart to inform decisions about holding class. Factors such as precipitation, wind chill and weather warnings are also considered. Participants will be notified via email the day before class if the weather might be a concern and a decision to hold class or not will be made by 8 am the morning of class. Participants will be notified via email.
Is There a Restroom Available?
Yes! Although it will require a few minutes away from class to walk to and back.
Is Winter Tinkergarten Cold?
Depends on the weather and how you dress! I have been teaching Winter Tinkergarten for 5 years and have been uncomfortable only once! There is a saying at Tinkergraten- There is no bad weather, only bad clothing. We are fortunate to live in Virginia where our Winter tends to be comparatively mild. With layers, hats and gloves and nice warm socks and boots you and your explorer should be just fine during the 45 minutes we spend outside.
What should I Wear for Winter Tinkergarten?
Start with lots of LAYERS! For example, an under shirt with a long-sleeved shirt, short sleeve shirt and a sweater or sweatshirt with a warm winter coat with a hood. Don’t forget to layer the bottom half as well. Tights, leggings or tight-fitting pajama bottoms are good under a pair of pants. Good socks and a warm pair of boots to keep your feet dry and warm. Don’t forget hats and gloves or mittens. Gloves tend to be easier for explorers to participate in play, but I understand mittens are easier to put on! A snow suit is also a suitable choice! Don’t forget to dress yourself using these guidelines as well! I can’t tell you how many kids come all bundled up, but the parents have forgotten even a coat for themselves!
